Performed at Victory Gardens Greenhouse, the second Visky text performed by Theatre Y, I Killed My Mother, marked the company’s official residency as a Chicago based company. The story of “Bernadette,” a Romanian orphan, one of the forgotten collateral damage of Ceasescu’s communist dictatorship and her friend “Clip,” the play was the first collaboration with New York based director Karin Coonrod. Minimally staged, but with a blazing aesthetic and raw, heart-wrenching performances, the show played to critical acclaim and garnered Lorraine an Orgy Award for Best Actress. Invited to run at LaMama ETC in New York, Coonrod’s production of I Killed My Mother received a rave Ben Brantley review on the cover of the New York Times Art Section.
